Algo que me caracteriza como pintor es que soy autodidacta por lo que voy lento en mis avances. Voy descubriendo poco a poco las técnicas, los materiales, etc.

En pintura me interesa y pretendo la expresión plástica de mis emociones. Para ello me sirvo de diversos materiales.

Mis cuadros son composiciones y en ellos busco el equilibrio entre las formas, los espacios, las texturas, los colores y las sombras.

Me interesan especialmente las sombras que provocan las marcas y texturas que, adrede, incorporo a mis obras. A veces me sirvo de mis propios pies para crear dejando a la vista las huellas que dejan en el lienzo o tabla al pisar sobre una carga de polvo de alabastro.

El descubrimiento de un nuevo material que pueda incorporar a mis creaciones es algo que me apasiona y siempre me sorprende. El uso de metales, telas, papeles y cartones, cuerdas y otros elementos abre cada vez nuevos caminos. Los tratamientos con barnices y ceras, las veladuras con cantidades importantes de cargas de mármol y de alabastro en polvo, los craquelados... constituyen mi manera de hacer y de sentir la pintura.

Something that characterizes me as a painter is that I am self-taught person, so am slow in my progress. I discover little by little the techniques, materials, etc.

In painting, I am interested in expressing plastically myemotions. To this end, I use various materials.

My paintings are compositions in which I search for a balance between shapes, spaces, textures, colour and light and shade.I am particularly interested in highlighting the textures which I incorporate purposely into my work.

The discovery of a new material which I may utilize in my creations is something that I like, and which always surprises me. The use of metals, fabrics, paper and cardboard, ropes and other elements increasingly opens up new paths. The treatments with waxes and polishes, glazes and a significant amount of marble and alabaster dust are my way of creating and feeling my work.

COLORES, MATERIAS, TEXTURAS ...

Aunque soy colorista y me gusta usar el color, tiendo a ser monocromático reduciendo aquel en cada obra a unos pocos, a veces uno o dos, sin contar por supuesto el uso que hago de los colores neutros, negros, blancos y tierras, en todas sus graduaciones. En general huyo de las estridencias provocadas por contrastes entre colores.

Cuando empiezo  un cuadro no sé cómo va a acabar. Me sirvo siempre de un boceto previo pero, al final, cada cuadro tiene su propia vida y acaba dirigiéndome.

El acto creativo con distintos materiales exige un planteamiento del método que se va a utilizar ya que cada elemento debe ser fijado totalmente al lienzo o soporte y ello obliga a guardar un protocolo de actuación y, sobre todo, un orden riguroso.

Al principio, cuando empecé, hacia cada obra sin planificación alguna, lo hacía construyendo lo que en cada momento me dictaba mi cabeza y, en parte, mis manos. Con el tiempo aprendes lo importante de hacer un proyecto y de lograr una base adecuada en la que cada material haya sido incorporado y fijado perfectamente. Ahora planifico más e improviso si hace falta con el acabado final, con los colores, barnices y veladuras.

Although I like and use colour, I tend to be monochromatic in its use, reducing its range to very few, as few as one or two and I shy away from any garishness caused by sharp contrasts between them.

When I start a painting, I do not know how it will end. I always prepare a sketch but, in the end, each painting has its own life which ends up by directing me, not viceversa.

The act of creative with different materials requires a discipline in the method that is going to be used, since is applied to the canvas or its support requires a rigid system and order.When I started, I lacked any planning and I worked as my head dictated at each moment and, in part, with my hands. Over the time, one learns the importance of a project and of how to achieve the adequate base in which each material is incorporated and applied perfectly. Now I plan ahead more thoroughly and, if necessary, improvise the final work, with colours, varnishes and glazes.

Para mí, pintar es simplemente una necesidad, es una manera de expresarme y de sacar lo Para mí, pintar es simplemente una necesidad, es una manera de expresarme y de sacar lo que llevo dentro.  Con mi pintura expreso conceptos y partes de mí que no soy capaz de expresar de otra manera. Ni siquiera soy consciente de  mucho de lo que transmito con ello.

Hace un tiempo conseguí una exposición en el Colegio Oficial de Veterinarios de Madrid y  decidí  compartirla con otra pintora. Esta quiso conocer de primera mano lo que yo hacía  y vino a ver mi estudio y mi obra. En aquel momento, desde hacía casi dos años, el edifico donde tenía mi estudio en Madrid estaba siendo objeto de una importantísima obra y todo el aparecía caótico, con desconchones y remiendos, vigas a la vista … Al llegar, mi amiga, se quedó en silencio pensativa un momento y me comentó: Javier estas pintando lo que vives. Tus cuadros reflejan exactamente las obras de tu casa… tus cuadros expresan exactamente tus vivencias.

Jamás lo había pensado pero así era. Me di cuenta de cómo nuestro entorno, nuestra realidad influye en lo que hacemos y cómo lo expresamos.

Desde que acabaron las obras  mi arte ha cambiado sustancialmente.

Si eres honesto, todo lo que te rodea, todo, se refleja en tu obra…

For me, painting is simply a need: it is a way of expressing myself and exteriorizing what I have inside. With my painting I express concepts and parts of myself that I am unable to express in any other way. I am not even aware of much of what I convey with it.

Some time ago, I was able to exhibit at the College of Veterinary Sciences of Madrid, and decided to co-exhibit  with another painter. She wanted to know firsthand what I was doing and came to see my studio and my work. At that time and for almost two years, the building where I had my studio in Madrid was being refurbished, and everything appeared chaotic, with building materials and exposed structural beams ... upon arrival, my friend, was  momentarily thoughtful and told me: Javier, you are painting what you live, and your work reflects that very environment.

I had never thought about it, but that's the way it was. I realized how our environment, our reality, determines what we do and how we express it.

Since finishing that refurbishment work, my art has changed substantially.

If you are honest, everything that surrounds you, everything, should be reflected in your work ... I paint what I live.
